Website Coding

Smith has extensive experience coding web pages by hand, using standards-compliant XHTML with CSS and cross-browser JavaScript.

Smith is particularly interested in back-end development processes, and has created and updated a number of website systems using PHP with MySQL, including a Finished Goods Inventory Database application written for a Portland-area manufacturing company.  Smith has also written several applications that parse XML datasets utilizing AJAX, ActionScript, and PHP implementations. 

Smith has also created a number of Flash objects, including a complex interactive web-to-print online design tool written in object-oriented ActionScript 3.0 with a PHP back-end interface.

Smith is presently wrapping up the finishing touches on his own proprietary Content Management System, featuring a completely original JavaScript-based rich text editor and an underlying system in PHP with MySQL.

Website Layout Design

Jesse Smith has created a large number of complete website layout designs.  Not counting assorted updates and modifications, Smith has created some 40 original websites, including 8 fully custom website designs built entirely from scratch for his clients; more than 20 original website templates (14 of which are currently available online from Basementia Design); and 10 unique websites built for the various departments of Basementia Enterprises.  

Smith switches back and forth between Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator to create his websites.  He avoids the WYSIWYG functionality of these programs, preferring the tightened control he exercises over the end result when he writes all the code by hand.  The design process is not always the same but often Smith or his client will sketch a basic layout by hand, and Smith will then create the basic layout in Dreamweaver and use Photoshop and Illustrator to create graphic objects for the page, such as the logotype, buttons, backgrounds, boxes, etc.

Graphic Design

Smith also has extensive experience as a graphic designer. He has been working with Adobe Illustrator since he landed a job setting up text layouts at a print shop way back in 1999. Since then Smith has designed layouts for merchandise packaging, unique logos, and advertisements, as well as countless incidental web graphics. Business Management

Jesse Smith is the President of Basement Productions, Inc., dba Basementia, dba BE Printing, dba Widgeon Web Design. Since June 2003 Smith has guided the company, done most of the work and contracted the rest. Smith has written and rewritten business plans, developed marketing strategies, and distributed an annual report to investors and the company's Board of Directors. Smith has also taken the unusual step of filing the company's corporate taxes himself, including calculating asset depreciation.

Smith has previous experience in Sales and Customer Service at two different print shops.  Additionally, Smith was at one time a shift supervisor in a department with more than 30 staff members.
